[PHI 1000] Should we fear death?

According to Epicurus, we should not fear death or, as he puts it, "death is nothing to us," since while we exist, our death is not, and when our death occurs, we do not exist. More explicitly:
  1. Either death is or it is not.
  2. If death is, then we should not fear death, since we don't exist.
  3. If death is not, then we should not fear death, since it doesn't exist as long as we exist.
  4. Therefore, either way, we should not fear death.
Zack de la Rocha has a slightly different argument for why we should not fear death.

His argument can be reconstructed as follows:
  1. If we want to live a worthwhile life, then we should not fear death.
  2. We want to live a worthwhile life.
  3. Therefore, we should not fear death.
What do you think of these two arguments? Are they sound?
